Regression models for categorical dependent variables using Stata, 2nd Edition
[This chapter provides an overview of how time use can be studied and what empirical strategies are adopted in this volume to study time in the domestic sphere. Specifically, the chapter illustrates the Italian Time Use Survey and its main strengths, in particular the diary method technique for data collection and its large sample size. The chapter then describes the life course approach adopted in the volume and the main dependent variables used in the empirical chapters: overall housework and its main sub-components (cooking, washing clothes and cleaning the house, odd jobs), childcare and its sub-components (physical childcare, interactive childcare, helping with homework), and adult care. Then the main independent variables are discussed. Finally, the chapter provides a graphic and descriptive overview of the time spent by women and men on general housework, childcare and adult care across all the stages of the life course considered in the volume.]
