The data in the current edition is accurate according to IISS assessments as at January 2015, unless specified. Inclusion of a territory, country, state or group in The Armed Conflict Survey does not imply legal recognition or indicate support for that entity. General Arrangement and Contents The introduction provides an assessment of global conflict developments and key themes. Next, five analytical essays focus on aspects of armed conflict: the challenge of hybrid warfare; the evolution of global jihadism; the crime–conflict nexus; the changing role of humanitarian action; and peace operations and the Responsibility to Protect. A graphical section follows, presenting a number of conflict maps and graphics. The sections providing data and analysis on each conflict are organised according to region. The book closes with a reference section. The Chart of Conflict The Chart of Conflict, which was previously carried in The Military Balance, will henceforth be carried in The Armed Conflict Survey. As in the past, the chart shows the location and intensity of armed conflicts and terrorist attacks.
